Invalidation of Tracks - Trackmakers, read this!3:27 AM 08-Jan-07 : Quote : Report : #

Hello, this thread is dedicated to the topic of actions that invalidate any validation runs.

In the track editor, you have the following basic groups of actions available to you:

- Mood*, name, comments, snapshot position, difficulty setting, setting gold/silver/bronze medal
- Custom music
- Number of laps
- Painter (for changing images on billboards, signboards, TV screens etc.)
- MediaTracker - Intro
- MediaTracker - Outro/Replay
- MediaTracker - In-game
- Tiles/terrain

Items listed in bold invalidate the track.

*) How to change the daytime of the track: After entering the list of tracks in the editor, Hold Ctrl, click on the track name, then hold the Ctrl and click on Edit - a window for selecting the mood will pop up.

One important thing: ENTERING the in-game MediaTracker editor invalidates the track even if you don't make ANY change in it (!!!) Therefore, ALWAYS save your map after a validation run, just in case you mis-click (e.g. if you plan on editing the Outro after a validation run); if you do save it, you can simply load the saved track if you accidentaly enter the in-race MT editor.

One thing that may seem strange is "why doesn't changing signs invalidate the track?". Well, basically, any action that can theoretically make racing more complicated for the racer invalidates the track. That's the reason why in-race mediatracker invalidates, because it's possible to change camera angle/view, make screen darker etc. On the other hand, there are no transparent and semi-transparent signs in the game (and I guess there never will be), so no matter what image you place on a sign, it cannot make the racing itself harder for the racer.

Intro and Replay do not affect the racing itself, so you can freely work on these after a validation run.

Somewhat questionable is that you can change the MOOD (i.e. time of day) of the track without invalidating - it's quite probable that driving on island is much harder during sunrise/sunset, when the sun can almost "blind you", but this is simply the way Nadeo decided to make things :-)

Hope this clarifies a bit.

Attention: A bug in the current version (as of today) causes that removal of circular CP (Stadium) does not invalidate the track:

Ok you say entering the MediaTracker will invalidate the track. Is there anyway to reverse this? Deleting the tracks in the Mediatracker?

Or is it irreversible.

I have just spent 4 hours on my first track and now it won't finish. It used to finish but I wanted to make some changes, smooth turns etc, now when i try to validate it the race does not end at the finish it just keeps going.

Any ideas?

That shouldn't have anything to do with the MediaTracker.

Make sure you pass through all the checkpoints (blocks with a blue "gate" and a blue arrow on them) and THEN the finish.

Ok so if I had two alternate paths through the track would I need to pass through any check points on the alternate legs or should I remove check points unless all cars on all paths will definitely pass through them.

On another note I can't select my tracks to race around in solo or multiplayer why is this?

Is there anywhere I can find out what each of the tiles are without trial and error?

Finally thanks for all the help I love the game but not much in the way of ingame explanations.

With alternative routes, you'll want the different patsh to converge and put checkpoints where they do. The checkpoints know nothing about your track, so you need to create tracks with this in mind. And there's no way to make them optional or to force people to go through them in a certain order. There are two major rules when it comes to checkpoints. They should

1) prevent people from taking shortcuts. Proper use of checkpoints make sure the race is fair for everyone, not favouring people who know the shortcut(s).
2) Allow people to start from them instead of from the start. In other words, it should be possible to finish the race from any checkpoint.

You can't see them until you've successfully validated and THEN saved them.

Hmm, well... not as far as I know. The manual could have been more detailed here.

But after you get some experience with a given environment, you'll see how the different types of blocks are grouped together. That's the bottom line really, the more you use the editor the less painful it will become.

Ok thanks for all the help, going great now but on one of my tracks when I click valiadate instead of moving to the "chase cam" view point, the camera moves way up into the sky looking down over the whole race track. I have no idea what this is, how do I go back to the chase cam?

Never seen that myself. The intro runs when you click validate, so that could be it (if so you can delete the intro or hit Enter to skip it).

During the race you can select different race cameras with 1, 2 and 3 on the Num Pad.

Hmm, i tried to get that Window for changing the moods, but it didnt came up. Because my map has a password for editing, right after clicking the EDIT button with holding the CTRL key down, was the asking for the password. After that it just loaded the track normally into the editor, no more ways to edit the mood of the track. I tried it with TMU, is there something i made wrong or is not working with TMU ?

In a stunt map if you change the time limit you invalidate the track
