Here is some explanation of how the TMX leaderboard competitions work.
 Rating Of Tracks
o Normal Tracks are rated out of a theoretical maximum of 100,000.
o When a player posts a replays on a track, they add to the tracks score.
o The amount they add is dependant on their placement in the associated environment leaderboard.
o The player who is 1st place in an environment leadboard leaves 10,000 toward the tracks rating.
o Everyone else leaves a value less than 10,000 which is relative to how close they are (in score) to 1st place.
o When a track already has 10 replays posted, we see if any additional score is to be added as a result of your replay.
o Track ratings will naturally inflate as more and more high rated drivers choose to post a replay on the track.
o The highest rated tracks will eventually become 'classic' tracks which means they no longer count in this system
o This removes the focus off those tracks and allows new tracks to take their place as the most highly rated.
Single Environment Leaderboards
o The 1st placed replay on any track is given a score equal to the track rating.
o Lower placed replays are given a score relative to how close their time is to the 1st place replay
o Your top 10 scores from tracks in that environemnt make up your LB score (we divide the total by 10).
o However, replays stop counting (we call this 'expire') after 30 days.
o This means you have to keep finding new replays.
o A replay that is counting to your score on an environment leaderboard has a  against it.
United Leaderboard
o Counts your best 2 replays from each environment
o These are shown with  on your records page.
o This means your score on the environment LB is out of a theoretical max of 140,000
o Use the quick queries on the Find Tracks page to find the highest rated tracks in each environment.
o All replay expire after 30 days. This just means they stop counting towards your score.
o As well as this, tracks are made into classics, they also stop counting towards your score
o This means that you do need to keep on finding new tracks to post a replay on.
 Classics Leaderboard
o These tracks will show with a symbol.
o Once a classic, the track will no longer count toward your normal leaderboard rating.
o But instead, it will count toward the classic leaderboard.
o To top the "classic" leaderboard you simply have to hold the most world records across all classic tracks.
o As a tie-breaker, we cunt how many top10 placed replays you have on classic tracks.
o This will not be easy, as these tracks already reached a high level of competitiveness to become classics in the first place.
 Nadeo Leaderboard
o Nadeo tracks are marked with and have their own leaderboard.
o Because there is a finite number of tracks, all we do is total up your points.
o On each track, 1st place gets 10,000 and those below get points depending on how close their replay is to 1st place.
 Uncompetitve Tracks
o We mark some tracks as uncompetitive.
o All this means is that the track is not suitable to be used for any of our leaderboards.
o Often press forward tracks or very very short tracks will be marked as uncompetitive.

Here is some extra detail...
The new Interface
o On the frontpage Leaderboards there are 4 things to click on.
o The blue player name takes you to a view of that players replays
o The WR's count shows you that players world records only
o The score column shows you the replays that are contributing to the players core
o The 'show more' button takes you to an extened view of that leaderboard.
Show Me More
o As well as Score, each Leadboard lists how many Replays, Top10's and WR's a user has.
o You can order the LB by any of these using the additional controls at the bottom of the page.
o You can compare with another player using the 'Driver' free form text box.
o If you are in a team, then if you all have your team in your TMX name you can use this as like a TEAM LB
o As an example, try entering ATP into where it says 'Driver' and then click Apply
View:
o Use this to switch between the 2 main LB views
o The 'Specific' view shows 1 LB with detailed stats
o The 'All' view lets you compare stats across multiple LB's.
Now, there is some small things that we still need to do some work on. MrD needs to populate the database with the individual environment figures for Classic & Nadeo leadboards, as these are all 0's at the moment.
We are also thinking about whether to 'normalise' the relative values of the No.1 track per environment, as at the moment there is a big difference in value between Stadium or Island and say Coast or Bay.
However, as nobody has really played the environment leaderboards yet, we can't tell if we need to do that or not. Basically the system is designed to push up the ratings of the top tracks per environment, so competition on its own over the comming weeks should push the ratings of the top tracks in each environment closer together.
We will monitor this and see how it goes.
Please use this this thread to feedback any issues or thoughts you have on the system. Its a pretty major update to the site and so the next few days are the big test.

hm looks like youve fixed the link to this topic minutes ago , cause it led us to the test page of tmu 
really cool updates, now i know what the green stars next to the  symbols mean 
and the links in the leaderboards on the frontpage are really helpful
(what i am still missing is how to see ,how many tracks from a single environment got uploaded on tmx united so far it always say ~24000 tracks)
also i love the new smileys  (why dont you add them on the nations page? )
but one thing im not sure of..
if you want to get a good score in the united l b, then you have to make 2 replays in every enviro.. so 14 replays..
but if you want to have a good rank in all environment leaderboards, you have to make 10 replays per environment.. so 70 replays every month? 0_o
isnt that crazy much? maybe only the 5 best replays should count for an environment leaderboard.. or the replayexpiry should be raised to for example 50 days  but only in the enviroment leaderboards, in the united LB they still expire after 30 days 
just a little thought of me.. anyways, thanks for changing the LB, its so much better now (yay im still 1st in stadium LB ) |

Of course thats crazy, so pick the LB's you want to compete at....
Or be crazy and play them all, the choice is in the hands of the driver, but in seriousness, its never our idea that people actually try and play all 7 LB's at the same time. Some people will have time to do that perhaps, most people should focus on what they have time for. |

The update looks great! I believe that being able to see the leaders for specific environments is a very good idea . This should get more people submitting their times on their favourite environments. Plus, it will get people who only like one or two environments up in the high ranks for that environment. AWESOME JOB!!!
One thing I noticed though, is that the "your recent downloads" section is gone now  . I use that alot because I have trouble remembering things, such as which tracks didn't I award yet and which ones I've downloaded. I like to use it to find the tracks that I've downloaded so that I can award them. Can you please bring it back, unless you are planning to do that anyways . THANKS!! |

"Uncompetitive Tracks" is really a great idea !!!!!!! may be the best of the update
Are 1 min red booster tracks with 3 or 4 turns (and million jumps... ) uncompetitive `? *just joking*

Great changes have been made and it looks quite nice so far, however I wonder why the game-play has been ignored for the leaderboards.
Why can't I choose something like 'Show me the TMU overall leaderboard, but for [insert your favorite game-play-here]'
game-plays to insert: race, platform, puzzle, stunt
BTW, are those leaderboards for the game-play 'race' only or is e.g. a high-scoring replay on a stunt or platform track counting too?

The United Leaderboard is great...using 2 replays per enviro...is really great!!!
At least, leaderboard players will now choose more srategically the enviros where they want to compete...
